The relationship between wavelength and frequency is based on the formula: λ = c/f, where λ is the wavelength, c is the speed of light, and f is the frequency. This calculator uses the speed of light constant c = 299,792,458 m/s.
For a given wave, the relationship between frequency and wavelength is determined by its velocity. For electromagnetic waves in a vacuum, their propagation velocity is equal to the speed of light c, which is defined in the International System of Units as 299 792 458 m/s. The frequency corresponds to the number of times a wave/particle vibrates in a certain time, or the number of times it returns to the same state within each unit of time. It is usually measured in hertz (1/s). Wavelength is the spatial distance between these vibrations, or the distance between two closest points where the waves are in the same state. It is usually measured in meters.
In this wavelength and frequency calculator, we assume that we are converting monochromatic electromagnetic waves in a vacuum. Therefore, we assume that the speed of the wave is equal to c, and that the wavelength and frequency each have discrete values. You can convert the frequency to wavelength using the equation shown here.
